What’s Happening in Jewelry?

I’ve already mentioned it, but big, bold, bulky, and chunky are hot for jewelry making in 2009. Mediums using this huge theme include plastics, glass beads, wood focals, and soft wearables (fabric, felt, fibres).
You’ll also see the classics of pearls (white, off-white), crystals (pastels), and gemstones. There is a soft touch with the classics so you’ll see lots of pastels and antiquing. When it comes to the classics… less is more in design this year. There will also be lots of dangles and netting for necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.
Charms are coming into popularity once again. Some of the most innovative charms are the glass, metal, and soldering treasures that can be found on websites like Artist Jana Ewy’s www.justbananas.com or Artist Sally Jean Alexander’s http://www.sallyjean.com/. You’ll discover (or re-discover) plenty of techniques for metal jewelry to get you inspired and a broader variety of metal supplies designed and packaged just for the artist and craftsperson in 2009.
What’s happening in your jewelry-making world for 2009? What jewelry are you making for gift giving?
