The City Speaks

Posted by Mindy on December 29th, 2008 at 10:22am

Over Christmas my boyfriend and I went to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin for a weekend getaway. While there, we explored the cute downtown area full of art galleries, wine shops and boutiques. Because we’ve only been in our apartment six months, we haven’t had the time (or money) to acquire any artistic decoration. So we had our eyes peeled.

In one gallery we came across the work of Jennifer Lockwood. She creates images out of magazine and flyer cut outs that relate to the overall theme of the piece. I have always been into making collages out of old magazines on picture frames or reporting notepads. So not only did they stand out to me, but I have a great deal of respect for the time and patience it takes to create something like this. It was also fun scanning through all the tiny terms to see how many I recognized.

Here are a few examples of her work. The gallery owner told us that she is also working on an American flag piece. Lockwood does not have her own website, but you can find her work here.
