It’s that time of year again, kids are heading back to school and either your child is excited at the prospect or they are dreading the end of their summer. Either way it’s the perfect time to get them more excited by creating some fun back to school crafts you can all work on together.

This is also great for teachers looking for craft ideas to work on with students the first day. It’s a wonderful way to get to know your students’ personalities.

I’ve noticed my sister can always get her son more excited about the prospect of almost anything if she can personalize the project for him. By letting him put his personality into whatever they’re working on makes him feel special.

So here are some ideas that allow creativity and personality to shine, and are perfect for kids to use at school:

Cubby Coat Hangers- These hangers are easy to make, useful and will get kids excited about personalizing their own space at school. Plus, they’re adorable!

I.D. Tags for Backpacks and Lunchboxes- Even more fun are these colorful tags to personalize all kinds of school items. The kids are sure to have fun picking out colors, patterns and attaching them to their favorite items.

Beaded Wrapped Pens- This is a great craft for personality to show. It will allow for an assortment of color choices and decorative beads to make really cool pens. These are sure to make friends jealous, maybe even the teachers.

Altered Personalized Pencil Case- This is a cute idea for kids to add their names to their pencil/pen cases. Whether to stand out from friends, or for ease of keeping track of whose is whose at home or in the classroom.

Cute Clip-On Animals- This easy craft is a unique way for kids to make it easier for the teacher to know who’s who simply by adding their name to the animal. Also it’s a great way for teachers to learn something about each student, like what’s their favorite animal.

Your summer was so much fun swimming in the pool, basking in the sun and enjoying your friends and family. This is always the best time to spend with your kids too. You love watching them play and seeing how fast they grow, but now they have to go back to school. This can be a difficult time for any parent and child. Being a kid going back to school can be a scary time as well, so get them pumped up. Make some really cool crafts that excite them about going back to school or starting school for the first time.

We had some really cute crafts sent in to us from Sharon Pierce McCullough of ZiggityZoom.com These crafts are for kids of all ages including the littlest ones. Kids always like getting messy and playing with glue so why not make a fun craft that allows them to play. The Recycled School Bus is a really fun craft for kids to create. Not only is it fun, but it’s also Eco-Friendly. This school bus is made out of recycled goods. So next time you think about throwing out your garbage maybe you should stop and think about what you can do with it. Another really cute and helpful craft are the Animal Clip-ons. The kids will have fun making this, but it is also helpful for the parents. When your kids are in school there are tons of other kids around. These animal clip-ons are a great way to help identify your child in a mass crowd. You might also be able to use these when you know you’re going somewhere crowded.

Even though it’s still mid-summer, I’m already thinking of Autumn. Sometimes summer gets so jam packed with activities and gatherings that all I can do is look forward to returning to the daily grind of September and beyond. Things are less hectic when everyone’s in school, yes?

So I was thinking, as a  beginner quilter myself, July is the perfect time to start working on a quilt you can use during those cold months. It seems premature to think about, but how awesome will it be when your new comforter is completed in time for that first frost of November. And let’s be honest, the cold creeps up on us like a thief in the night, it does!

Here’s a few quilting patterns I came across that will look fantastic as a throw on the sofa or a spread on the master bed.

Stamp Block Quilt – 40 different small blocks of fabric make up this stamp quilt. With so many different fabrics, you won’t need a color scheme and can use up any scraps from your fabric stash.

Seashells Quilt – Inexpensive crayons are used to create seashells images and shading on this beach-inspired quilt. Sandpaper works as a transfer for ironing on seashell templates.

Quilted Star – Small wall hanging are perfect projects for beginner quilters, and this Ohio Star quilt is extra simple with a rotary cutter. This colorful quilt made with a center star quilt pattern will brighten up any room.
