National Craft Month: Crafting 101

PinExt National Craft Month: Crafting 101

As experts and enthusiasts of all things crafty, FaveCrafts decided to host a special National Craft Month blog series for all of our lovely readers. Check back for a new blog post every day featuring our favorite projects, new craft videos, how-to’s from the FaveCrafts editors, and a GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS, AMAZING craft giveaway at the end of the month. That’s right–we’re giving away the biggest prize ever, a gift basket chock full of crafting goodies from our craft closet. There’s something for everyone in this gift basket.

Leave a comment below, and on any blog post labeled “National Craft Month” in the headline, and your comment will count as an entry into the giveaway. You are free to comment as often as once per blog post (for a total of 31 chances to win!). At the end of the month, we’ll pool all of the comments together and pick one lucky winner.

Talk about a broad topic! FaveCrafts is all about Crafting 101. So I thought I’d give you some direction as to where to find some of your most sought information on FaveCrafts.

First, we have a craft videos section on FaveCrafts.com. In addition to all kinds of videos from experts and fabulous crafters, we have special sections for videos from Cool2Craft Videos and Terri O Videos, and sections for Soap Making Videos and Paper Craft Videos. And don’t miss our FaveCraftsVideo YouTube channel and FaveCrafts 365 on the blog, both of which have even more videos!

Then, there’s the Crafting Techniques, Tips, and Tutorials section on FaveCrafts. In the 89 articles in that section and the , we cover everything from Adhesives to Working with Waterbrushes! Plus, we’ve got a special tie-dye section that covers all types of methods of creating cool dyed items.

And since we cover all types of crafts on FaveCrafts, you’ll find projects for most of the techniques you’re looking to learn.

That leads me to today’s question.
What crafting technique do you want to learn that you’re looking for information on? If you’ve searched FaveCrafts.com and haven’t found it, let us know what we’re missing and we’ll put it on our list of projects and tutorials to add to the site.

  6. Judy Harritan says:

My grandmother died when I was only 10. She loved to tat.

Although I crochet, knit, cross stitch, sew, etc., I have never learned to tat.

I fear tatting has become a lost art.

  7. JudyRaeL says:

Just found this site and it looks great. I’m sure that I will have lots of fun with learning new crafts.

  8. R.L. Maynard says:

My crafting takes me to my ‘happy place’. When I get stressed out, I grab a pair of knitting needles or my crochet hook and go to town! All my troubles are easily worked out when the needles or hook is flying, lol.

  9. Kathy Bragg says:

I’m not sure the name of it, but I know you use wool and like a needle and you can make stuff like animals. I’ve seen plenty people have made and have for sale, but I’d like to know how to do it myself. Thanks, pick my name okay? Lol

  10. It’s National Craft month and I love crafts. Right now working on fashionable arm sling, due to have shoulder surgery in 2 days. Can’t stand those ugly blue plain slings.

  11. Add me to the tatting interest group. It’s beautiful!

  15. I’m learning how to use old dishes to make mosaic tiles on picture frames. Have found a few things I want to try on the website if I get good enough.

  16. I am crocheting a bag for my granddaugher

  17. I love card making and paper crafts, but I am just starting to learn loom knitting and would love more patterns for that, especially all these lacey scarf patterns, or something on how you can change a pattern for knitting to loom knitting. I have never knit so I am now to all things knitting.

I love hand made everything! I would like to make my girls clothes because they deserve good quality as well as modest and cute LITTLE GIRL clothes. I don’t want to have to worrie about the skimpieness of the clothes in the stores.

  22. MARILYN MENDOZA says:

GOD BLESS YOU. I DON’T KNOW HOW I LIVED ALL THESE YEARS WITHOUT YOU. YOUR CRAFTS LOOK SO EASY TO DO AND SO WELL EXPLAINED THAT NOW I AM HOOKED TO YOUR CRAFTS.

  23. I am learning to felt and have read articles on Favecrafts to help me.

  24. Teresa (Knittingdancer) says:

My only craft hobby I have right now is knitting. I also like to work jigsaw puzzles & glue them to make pictures. I get the knitting email now from Knit Picky Patterns.

  25. You seem to have advice on EVERYTHING! But, I’m not sure you have info on this. I have some thermoset plastic (some Friendly Plastic, which is pretty, and another brand, which is plain white). I’ve only toyed with it a little, so I’m not too confident. But, I have this toothbrush holder that has a chrome plated base and a plastic stem that holds the toothbrushes. The plastic if fine, the base looks terrible because the paint is peeling. I’m wondering if I can make a new base from thermo plastic that would be water proof and pretty, or even amusing. I’m thinking I could keep the whole thing intact and add a plastic cover over the base. How’s that for a wacky question? OK, maybe too specific, but any Friendly Plastic ideas and tips are welcome.

  26. I really need some craft items and to win your basket would be awesome. I can craft some things to give for gifts since we are on a very tight budget. Love you site.

  27. Anything that has to do with paper crafting and I’m happy. :-)

  28. Debbie Kaste says:

I would like to see more craft projects involving folding papers for embelishments on cards. Also, I’d like to see more party favor ideas also made of paper. Thanks for all the helpful ideas on your blog!

  29. I’m just learning to knit.

  30. NWFlamingo says:

How about painting with encaustic wax?

  31. I didn’t see any articles on spinning or dying yarn. I haven’t made it through all the links yet though so I’ll keep looking!

  32. kristina says:

Paper crafts that aren’t scrapbooking or card making.

  33. I love crafting, and so far I have not been disappointed in finding things to create on here. So as of now there is nothing that I need help in finding. I love all the help, patterns, and tutorials that can be found on FaveCrafts!! Great job to all that put this together.

  34. Pop-Up cards and cards with moving parts, pull tabs, spinning disks, etc are always fun to make. Video tutorials would be helpful because you could show the cards “in action”.

  35. I really want to sew again. In the aftermath of my divorce I lost my sewing machine. It was not the best machine, but it did sew!
When I was 10, (without my parents knowledge, until I got home) with the help of a sales clerk, I used my birthday money to buy a pattern and enough fabric to make one of the shifts. Well, mother thought I was too young to use machinery. The intervening years were not wasted. I became very good at sewing by hand. Not until the summer after 7th grade did I learn to sew by machine; I took lessons at a fabric shop. Fromthen on through high school I made all of my clothing except jeans, knits and sweaters. I sewed clothing for my four children. I made quilts, pillows, swags and curtains for my home.
I really miss my sewing machine.

  36. OOOOOPS, didn’t finish my post…got submitted by the dog’s paw…LOL
What is great about this site is the information about new techniques. I do enjoy reading about sewing (as well as other crafts) and; I like hearing about what others are doing…and when I finally do get a machine, again, my to do list is a mile long.

  37. I think you have quite a lot of tutorials to chose from. I haven’t had a problem finding what I need, yet :)

  38. I would like learn how to use my serger in more ways. I know it’s capable of so much more than I use it for. Also, how can I use the serger on curves?

  39. Debbie Paape says:

One day I will have more time to watch the many videos , their is so many to choose frm and so many ideas.

  40. I would love to become more skilled you dye crafts!

  41. Wow, what a bunch of wonderfully helpful links! Thank you.
