How to Make Autumn Decorations

Summer is coming to an end and the leaves are starting to change color, so let’s add some color to your designs and decorations. Let’s fall right into the fall season. The air is turning to a crisp chill and the holiday wreaths begin to appear. Fall is the season to decorate your home beautifully for the holidays. People often forget and ask when is the first day of fall?
September 22 or 23. Depending on what year it is and what day it falls on. The first day of fall also depends on where you live. If you live on the Northern Hemisphere then fall begins in September, but if you live on the Southern Hemisphere, fall begins in March.
I’m also curious as to why do leaves change color in the fall? The kids get to play in the big pile of raked leaves, while you present your fall decorations. I absolutely love this season.
My favorite decorations have to be the wreaths. They’re always so detailed and brightly covered. I especially love the circle of autumn wreath. Here is how you can make it:
Materials:
*DecoArt Products Required
*Americana Acrylics
* DA264 – Mustard Seed
* DA265 – Tuscan Red
* DA266 – Orange Twist
Dazzling Metallics
* DA245 – Rich Espresso — NEW!!
Craft Twinkles
* DCT3 – Gold
* DCT13 – Orange
Supplies
* Aleene’s Quick-Dry Tacky Glue
* Silk fall leaves
* Foam plate
* 1/2″ flat brush
* 1″ soft brush
* Craft knife
* 4″ flat unfinished wood letters
* 4″ diameter lightweight faux pumpkin
* 14″ grapevine wreath
Steps:
1. Using a sharp pair of scissors cut silk leaves off the stem, leaving the plastic veins. Refer to the image for leaf placement and lay out desired number of leaves on covered surface.
2. Paint wooden letter F, Rich Espresso; letter A, Tuscan Red; one letter L, Mustard Seed; other letter L, Orange Twist. Let dry. Keep in mind you can change the color to whatever letter you wish.
3. Sprinkle some Orange Craft Twinkles onto plate and use wide brush to paint tops of leaves, surface of pumpkin, and painted letters. Allow Twinkles to dry.
4. Outline your letters with Gold Craft Twinkles; allow to dry.
5. Refer to photo for placement and glue leaves and pumpkin on wreath; glue letters in place on wreath.
Another Autumn decoration I really enjoy is a Halloween picture frame. It’s something special that can sit around the house and remind you of some good memories. In order to make a picture frame, here is what you need:
Materials:
* Spellbinders Die Templates S4-110 Classic Ovals Large, S4-121 Doodle Parts, L2-14 Excalibur Font
* Copic Markers
* Creative Impressions ribbon and leaf brad
* JustRite Stampers
* ClearSnap ColorBox Chestnut Roan ink
* Scrappin’ Sports & More patterned papers
* Prism textured cardstock
* Glue Dots, Scrapbooking Adhesive Runner by 3L
Steps:
1. Cut three (3) Classic Oval Large (S4-110) (second to the smallest).
2. Customize one of the ovals by stamping “Harvest Time” using the C-30 Monogram stamp by JustRite Stampers.
3. Cut Doodle Parts (S4-121) from green patterned paper.
4. Crumple the ovals and the doodle part stem. Press flat and ink with Chestnut Roan.
5. Layer the pumpkin parts as shown using dimensional adhesive.
6. Trim dark patterned paper, distress the edges and mount onto background paper.
7. Cut title letters from green patterned paper and shadow with E27 Copic Marker.
8. Assemble layout by adding ribbons, brad, matted photo, title and dimensional pumpkin.
