How To: Easy Reindeer Crafts for Kids

Who is your favorite reindeer? MY favorite one of Santa’s reindeer is definitely Prancer because of that early 90’s movie about the little girl who finds Prancer by her house. She befriends him, feeds him Christmas cookies, and then has to send him back to help Santa pull the sleigh. The whole ordeal helps bring she and her family closer together, etc. Oh what a great movie!

So if you find yourself watching old (or new) kids movies about reindeer, your kiddies might start to get all excited about Santa’s 8 reindeer coming to land on the roof in a just over a month! At this time, it might be appropriate to break out the Reindeer Crafts!

One of my favorite quick and easy ways to make reindeer antlers for a great many crafts is the tried and true method of tracing your hand on a piece of brown construction paper. You can use paper antlers for several crafts. Let’s start with a basic Rudolph Puppet.

You will need:

Brown and Black construction paper
Brown paper bag
Scissors
Red puff balls (optional)
Glue or Tape

Steps:

Trace your child’s hands on the brown construction paper – make 2.
Trace your own hands too (crafting with the kids is more fun this way!)
Leaving the bag closed, glue the hands to the back of the bag
Cut out two black circles for Rudolph’s eyes.
Glue a red puff ball for Rudoloh’s nose, or cut out circle from a red piece of paper.
VOILA!

A variation on this project uses a kids’ headband. Glue or tape the paper hands (antlers) to the headband. It works best if you make a paper tab at the end of each hand that can fold over the headband. A red clown nose would work well to complement your child’s antler headband, or a bit of red lipstick smudged on their little button noses is fun too. Have Dad dress up as Santa and Mom can be an elf! What a cute family dress-up activity!

Once you start making Reindeer Crafts, you could very well start putting paper Rudolphs all over your house. Make a wall hanging or placemats, napkin rings and Christmas cards. The possibilities are literally endless with an easy kids Christmas crafts like this one.
