P. Collingwood asks,
I am hoping you can help me locate something I need. I need fingerless or 1/2 finger support gloves with a leather shield for the area between the fourth finger and the thumb. The need is to protect an extremely sensitive inner surface on a partially amputated thumb in order to be able to tolerate using knitting needles. If you do not have such an item, do you have any ideas on where I could look to try to find one? So far my craft store, craft catalog, and internet searches have not turned up anything except the possibility of bicycle gloves. they look too stiff to do handwork. Thanks for any help you can give.
Gale asks,
I am trying to find a pattern for cross-stitch on gingham. I found a website that has free charts in this but they are not in English. I was wondering if anyone else could help me out? I am also trying to find a pattern for a Teddy Bear vacuum cleaner cover or any vacuum cleaner cover pattern.
Eva asks,
I am looking for a motorbike pattern either filet or afghan, preferably not a Harley Davidson pattern. Can you please help me?

Gale:
You should be looking for patterns under “chicken scratch”… That’s what the cross stitch technique your are talking about is.
To P. Collingwood I found this site it may help zappos.com look under athletic
For P. Collingsworth re fingerless gloves: Have you tried/heard of Bionic Gloves (name brand)? They’re available on their web site, just enter bionic gloves. They make excellent gardening gloves (both Father and Mother-in-law love them). Ordering for Son-in-law for Xmas. I know that they advertise a golf glove and a bicycle glove. Some fingerless options are advertised. Most are made of flexible leather. Maybe glove can be cut? Also, have you checked with an Occupational Therapist? Their job is re-epuipping people assisting people with daily life activities. Knitting sounds like a great exercise to maintain mobility and dexterity as well as creating something warm, useful and beautiful! Check with your Doctor for referral. Also, is there a Diabetes Support group in your area? They might have suggestions.
Sorry! Clicker error!
Eva: Here is a link for a filet crochet motorcycle pattern: http://stylish-crochet.blogspot.com/. It is a Harley, but it’s a motorcycle!
Look for “chicken scratch” used to be called, the cross stitch on gingham. Hope this helps maybe using that in search will help.
Gale: About.com has several free cross stitch patterns and 3 free ‘chicken scratch’ patterns. Once you have mastered the technique, you’ll be able to adapt any pattern to gingham.
Have you tried something like SWAT fingerless gloves:
http://www.amazon.com/SWAT-Tactical-Leather-Gloves-Finger/dp/B003BM8VBE
They might be able to be adapted to suit your needs and are all leather. You cuold maybe cut back the leather which you don’t need. Only 24.95 each too.
Or how about just sewing a leather patch on some half gloves which you already find comfortable? You could use an awl to punch evenly spaced holes and stitch them to the gloves in the exact position you need. You could look at thrift stores for old leather purses or belts and try to cut a piece to the correct size with a small saw or heavy scissors.
Sorry to hear about your amputation. If I ever had to give up needlework it would be so sad.
Good luck!
I have a pattern for vacuum cleaner covers.
