Ask Maria “Sharpen Personal Trimmer Blades?”

Question
Is there any way to sharpen the cutting blades on a personal trimmer? I seem to go through these blades very quickly.

I’ve never heard of any way to sharpen cutting blades of a personal trimmer or even craft knives. I did spend some time surfing the web since there seems to be a way to do just about anything, but had no luck. I can tell you that I do keep my dull personal trimmer blades to use as scoring blades in my cardmaking.
You can extend the life of a blade by marking one blade for thick papers and one for lightweight papers. Cutting photos and thick papers will wear the blades down faster. Keep the blades dry, don’t cut through anything that has adhesive, and rotate the thick paper blade to lightweight paper the first time you notice any blade hesitation or paper ripping. You might also want to just make a note every time you use a blade, you might find you are using it more than you realize, however, if a blade goes dull quickly you might want to send a note to the manufacturer because there may be something wrong with the blade. Watch for sales and stock up or try to locate a discount retail store online. Often if you buy in bulk you’ll get a better price even with shipping.

I sharpen my silhouette blade by running it through foil… you might be able to do the same with other small blades
