What is a long arm quilting machine?
I am just back from the amazing Fall Quilt Market in Houston and saw many long arm sewing machines in action! This is a special sewing machine that is used to quilt the quilt! The quilt is held taut on a large frame (adjusted to the quilt size) with a sewing arm that can move freely, letting the quilter create any design or pattern onto the quilt with free motion or, on the high end machine, a computer can control the machine. There is a huge variety available and each machine has its own qualities and benefits. This type of machine is an investment in an art and range in price starting around $4,000.00. One of my favorites from the trade show floor was the Tin Lizzie, I just loved the name and the Tin Lizzie 2 was introduced at the show!
